Paul brings a deep devotion to planting design that marries ecological richness with aesthetic pleasure. He is a key contributor to the firm’s planting design work, with a strong background in 3D modeling, rendering, and presentation. His work supports all phases of a diverse project portfolio, including custom residential landscapes, schools and community spaces, nature play environments, and landscape master planning.
In his first career as a designer for stage and film, he developed groundbreaking work, including nine world premieres for leading performing arts organizations across the United States. During this time, he honed his ability to tell stories, evoke place, and foster rich collaboration. At IDS, he leverages these skills to deliver projects rooted in context and responsive to the uniqueness of every site. He is motivated by the belief that landscapes can inspire, heal, and bring us into closer relationship with the natural world.
Paul holds an A.A. in Landscape Architecture from Merritt College, an M.F.A. in Design from the Yale School of Drama, and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College. Outside the office, he can be found visiting gardens, hiking Bay Area trails with his partner and their indefatigable Norwich terrier, or attending a play or concert.
